An inspiring success story of a progressive farmer from Ayodhya district is gaining attention across the state. Rajit Ram, a resident of Sihoriya village in Tarun development block, has achieved remarkable success through horticulture farming by adopting modern agricultural techniques and government-supported schemes.
By cultivating guava and capsicum on just 4.09 hectares of land, Rajit Ram earned a net profit of more than Rs 5 lakh, strengthening his family's financial condition and setting an example for other farmers.
Rajit Ram used advanced methods such as drip irrigation, mulching, intercropping and step cropping to improve yield and reduce water usage. The drip irrigation system helped conserve water and improved crop quality. His total investment was around Rs 3.40 lakh, while the total income from production reached Rs 8.50 lakh. This resulted in a net profit of Rs 5.10 lakh. The harvest included 20 tonnes of guava and 14 tonnes of capsicum.
Rajit Ram sold his produce in local mandis as well as at the divisional level, which helped him secure better prices. Rising demand for horticultural crops in Ayodhya and nearby cities, especially after increased tourism linked to the Ram Temple, also played a key role in his success.
Rajit Ram's achievement received recognition at the state level. He participated in a fruit, flower, and vegetable exhibition held at Jan Bhavan, where Governor Anandiben Patel honoured him for his innovative work and contribution to increasing farmers' income. The Governor said such farmers represent the progress of the state and highlighted the government's continued efforts to support farmers.
According to District Horticulture Officer Arun Kumar Tiwari, the Horticulture Department is actively working to increase farmers' income in Ayodhya. Farmers are being encouraged to shift from traditional farming to horticulture and high-value crops.
Government support includes subsidies for drip irrigation, mulching, micro-irrigation schemes, assistance under horticulture missions, and improved market access. These measures have helped strengthen farmers' livelihoods.
Rajit Ram says he began as a small farmer with limited income. With the help of new technology and government support, his earnings increased many times over. His success is now inspiring farmers in Sihoriya village and across the Tarun block, as he shares his experiences and techniques with others.
