In a controversial episode that drew widespread criticism, Malaysian influencer Tang Sie Luk faced an RM40000 (around Rs 9.2 lakh) fine for posting a video showing teenagers giving a homeless man rice mixed with chicken bones. The video, first shared on Douyin and later on Instagram, was framed as a 'kind deed' but was widely condemned as exploitative.



The now-deleted clip opened with a voiceover stating, "Today we are going to do a kind deed." It showed three teenage boys eating fried chicken from a KFC box, then noting that throwing away the bones would be wasteful.

Tang, who appeared in court without legal representation, expressed remorse and requested the minimum fine, while prosecutors argued for a stricter sentence to serve as a deterrent. The court also warned of a four-month prison term if the fine was not paid, though Tang settled the amount immediately.

Following the verdict, he deleted the video and issued a public apology, promising to change his approach to content creation.



The video quickly drew widespread online backlash, with many criticising the teenagers' actions. According to the prosecutor, the homeless man reported feeling insulted and angry, stating that the act was not charitable but rather a deliberate exploitation of his situation to generate social media content and attract attention.
