Remember March 2025? When OpenAI quietly rolled out an image generation to all free users and immediately unleashed chaos on the internet? With the rollout of the ChatGPT caricature trend, something similar is happening on social media currently. First, it was Studio Ghibli-style portraits that melted down timelines and lagged servers, and for a few weeks in early 2025, the internet collectively decided that we all belonged in an animated movie.

Now? The spotlight has shifted, and the latest obsession is ChatGPT caricatures. They are everywhere, on Instagram stories, TikTok videos, Reddit threads and even on Facebook. And most of them come from one deceptively simple prompt, "Create a caricature of me based on everything you know about me."

Why is everyone obsessed?

Caricature hit the sweet spot. They don't try to be hyper-realistic; they are about vibes. The results feel personal, flattering and instantly shareable, which is exactly why the trend keeps spreading.

It also helps that ChatGPT has quietly become one of the best AI image generators out there. While Google's Nano Banana is gaining buzz, ChatGPT still wins when it comes to understanding style, mood and aesthetic prompts.

How ChatGPT makes images (quick version)

Most ChatGPT images fall into three categories:

  • Text-to-image: describe a scene, get an image from scratch.
  • Image transformations: upload a photo and stylise it (this is where caricatures live).
  • Image edits: keep the photo, change specific details
Once you get the hang of it, the only hard part is knowing what to try next.

Here are 7 more viral ChatGPT image prompt types to try

Claymation Yourself (yes, like Robot Chicken)

Claymation had a moment, and it's back. ChatGPT can turn your photo into a stop-motion-style character that looks straight out of Robot Chicken. Just upload a picture of yourself and let the bot do its thing.

You can try using a prompt that reads, "Use this photo to create a claymation-style image. The subject is sitting in a cosy living room with soft furniture, bright lighting, vivid colours, and HD quality."

Not loving the result? Tell ChatGPT what to tweak. It’s surprisingly good at refining.

Turn your pet into a human

According to Mashable, somewhere between hilarious and mildly cursed, this trend is still going strong. Well, if you want to try this, you need to upload a photo of your pet and ask ChatGPT to image them as a human. You can customise everything: clothes, vibe, facial expression and even the background.

It's chaotic, it's fun, and yes, you probably screenshot it.

Become an Action Figure

This one refuses to die (in a good way). ChatGPT can turn you, or literally anything, into an action figure, complete with packaging, accessories, and plastic wrap.

Here's a pro tip: describe the box design and accessories if you want it to feel extra real.

Turn your Reddit username into art

Ever wonder what your Reddit handle would look like as an image? Upload nothing, just your username, and ask ChatGPT to visualise it. Some users also go realistic, while others go abstract. A few even ask for the opposite of their username. Results range from surprisingly cool to pure chaos.

Make images from what's trending

If you like mixing news with creativity, there's a custom ChatGPT tool called Trend Image that pulls ideas from current headlines. You can turn news into a webcomic or turn a science story into a kid-friendly illustration.

Blend two photos together

One of the coolest uses of AI images is mashups. Upload two photos and tell ChatGPT how to combine them, like putting you into a picture with your pet, a friend, or a totally different scene.
