When it comes to introducing a partner to parents, one woman took a route few would expect. At 30, the Noida-based organisational psychologist decided that a simple conversation would not suffice. Instead, she launched what she called “Project Damad Ji”, a carefully curated PowerPoint presentation designed to formally pitch her boyfriend to her mother for marriage approval.

Marriage in India is rarely just a personal decision. Families play a central role, opinions carry weight, and parental consent is often considered essential. Many spend days rehearsing the perfect moment to introduce a partner. This woman, however, approached the challenge with a blend of humour, strategy, and technology.

Her presentation opened with a title slide announcing “Project Damad Ji”, immediately signalling the seriousness and planning behind her approach. Each slide detailed the essentials parents typically seek: the boyfriend’s age, education, family background, profession, and career prospects. The deck resembled a professional pitch rather than a casual introduction, leaving little to chance.

A unique, thoughtful approach to marriage

She explains that the choice was motivated by a desire to be practical. “At 30, I want to be rational about marriage and make it clear that I am taking this decision with a clear mind, not just blinded by love,” she says. The aim was to demonstrate that the choice was deliberate and well considered, rather than impulsive.

Even friends were surprised by the idea, but they understood her inclination for grand gestures. The presentation also allowed for follow-up questions at the end, a step designed to ensure transparency and clarity. In the event, her mother had few queries, having already absorbed all the key details.

Her mother recalls her initial reaction: “I thought she was going to show me a work-related presentation for feedback. Knowing her, I was not entirely surprised, but I appreciated the thoroughness and thought behind it.” She adds that her daughter has always favoured structured announcements, a trait that stretches back to childhood when she planned small celebrations for personal milestones.

Practicality meets creativity

The PowerPoint not only conveyed information but also reflected the presenter’s personality and values. By combining meticulous planning with a touch of humour, she managed to balance respect for family expectations with her own sense of individuality.

The story of Project Damad Ji illustrates a generation increasingly comfortable blending tradition with modern tools. It shows that big life decisions, even those steeped in cultural expectations, can be approached with creativity, practicality, and a clear head. For this woman, it was more than a presentation; it was a statement of intent, responsibility, and love handled with thoughtfulness.
