CM Yogi Adityanath’s Vision Transforms Cow Welfare in UP
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has achieved an unprecedented milestone in cattle welfare by protecting over 1.63 million destitute cattle, the highest number recorded by any state in India. This achievement reflects a structured, accountable, and humane approach to animal welfare that goes far beyond conventional administrative measures.

A Statewide Network of Modern Cow Shelters

Since CM Yogi assumed office, more than 7,500 cow shelters (gaushalas) have been established across the state. These shelters provide regular fodder, clean drinking water, veterinary care, and safe living conditions for abandoned cattle. The initiative ensures dignity and protection for animals while addressing challenges faced by farmers due to stray cattle.

Strong Monitoring and District-Level Accountability

To ensure transparency and efficiency, the government constituted district-level cattle protection committees in every district. District Magistrates and Senior Superintendents of Police were appointed as nodal officers, strengthening supervision, accountability, and real-time monitoring of shelter operations and cattle safety.

Linking Cattle Welfare with Rural Livelihoods

Through the Chief Minister Participation Scheme and the Nutrition Mission, over 113,000 livestock farmers have received more than 181,000 cattle. By integrating cattle protection with livelihood generation, the government has boosted rural incomes, supported dairy-based employment, and reinforced the village economy.

Decisive Action Against Cattle Trafficking

The Yogi government launched a sustained crackdown against cattle smuggling networks. Large-scale arrests, vehicle seizures, and intelligence-driven operations dismantled organized trafficking channels. These measures not only enhanced cattle safety but also strengthened law and order across the state.

Cattle Protection as a Cultural and Ethical Commitment

The government’s approach treats cattle welfare not merely as an administrative task but as a cultural, social, and ethical responsibility. Leaders from the Cow Service Commission have emphasized that cattle play a vital role in agriculture, ecology, and human life, making their protection integral to sustainable development.

Environmental and Agricultural Benefits

Well-managed cattle shelters contribute to organic farming, natural manure production, and soil health improvement. By aligning cattle welfare with environmental sustainability, Uttar Pradesh is reinforcing traditional agricultural practices while promoting eco-friendly solutions.

A Replicable Model for the Nation

Uttar Pradesh’s comprehensive framework—combining infrastructure, enforcement, community participation, and economic integration—has positioned the state as a national role model in cattle protection. Other states are increasingly looking to UP’s system as a blueprint for sustainable animal welfare governance.

Leadership-Driven Governance Making the Difference

The success of cattle protection in Uttar Pradesh highlights how strong political will, administrative coordination, and grassroots involvement can solve long-standing challenges. CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership has transformed cattle welfare into a structured, measurable, and impactful governance outcome.

Towards a Humane and Sustainable Future

With continued policy support and public participation, Uttar Pradesh’s cattle protection initiative is set to evolve further—strengthening rural livelihoods, safeguarding animals, and reinforcing the state’s commitment to compassionate and responsible governance.
