Uttarakhand has secured the top position among small states in the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2024 released by NITI Aayog, highlighting the state’s performance in export-related readiness parameters. The index assesses states on factors such as policy environment, business ecosystem, infrastructure, and export outcomes.
According to the report, exports play a critical role in economic growth by generating foreign exchange, improving integration with global value chains, and supporting efforts to narrow trade deficits. Uttarakhand’s leading position reflects improvements across several of these dimensions.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami acknowledged the ranking, describing it as a notable milestone for the state. He attributed the performance to export-focused policies, infrastructure development, and measures aimed at improving the business environment. The state government has indicated that efforts are being made to promote district-specific products in global markets, with an emphasis on expanding employment opportunities and supporting local industries.
Industry observers note that a higher position in the Export Preparedness Index can help states attract investment and encourage industrial activity by signaling policy stability and readiness for trade-led growth. Uttarakhand’s ranking is expected to strengthen its visibility among exporters and investors exploring opportunities in smaller states.
