The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has enhanced the honorarium for drivers and conductors under the Mukhyamantri Janata Seva Yojana, strengthening rural public transport, ensuring smoother bus operations, and continuing affordable, safe travel for rural passengers across the state.
Mukhyamantri Janata Seva Yojana Gets Major Push in Uttar Pradesh
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government has taken another decisive step to reinforce public transportation in rural areas. The state transport department has approved an increase in the per-kilometer honorarium paid to drivers and conductors operating buses under the Mukhyamantri Janata Seva Yojana. The revised rates have come into effect immediately, reflecting the government’s commitment to both service providers and rural commuters.

This move is expected to enhance operational efficiency on rural routes while ensuring uninterrupted and reliable transport services in remote regions.

Revised Honorarium to Support Drivers and Conductors

Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh stated that contractual drivers and conductors were earlier paid ₹2.18 per kilometer. Following the latest decision, the honorarium has been increased by 14 paise, raising the rate to ₹2.32 per kilometer.

The enhanced compensation will provide financial stability to personnel engaged in rural transport services. This support is likely to encourage better performance, improve service quality, and ensure that buses continue to operate safely and regularly on village routes.

Affordable Travel with Reduced Fares for Rural Passengers

One of the key features of the Mukhyamantri Janata Seva Yojana is its affordability. Bus fares under this scheme are nearly 20 percent lower than those of ordinary buses, making daily travel economical for rural residents.

This pricing structure has benefited students, workers, farmers, and small traders by improving access to education, healthcare facilities, employment hubs, and local markets. The government aims to ensure that residents of rural Uttar Pradesh enjoy transport facilities comparable to urban areas, without financial strain.

Expanding Rural Connectivity Across Uttar Pradesh

Currently, 299 buses are operating on 395 approved rural routes across all 20 transport regions of the state under the Mukhyamantri Janata Seva Yojana. The initiative has significantly improved mobility in villages, helping bridge the gap between rural and urban infrastructure.By strengthening transport connectivity, the scheme is playing a vital role in supporting social inclusion, economic activity, and regional development, reinforcing the Yogi government’s broader vision of balanced growth across Uttar Pradesh.
